SERIE A - Verona's Giovanni Simeone runs rout on Lazio

Published on: 24 October 2021

Verona thrashed Lazio 4-1 in Serie A on Sunday. Giovanni Simeone, the son of former Lazio player and long-time Atletico Madrid coach Diego, scored twice in each half to sink Maurizio Sarri's side, who threatened briefly when Ciro Immobile halved the deficit seconds after the break.

Verona climb to 11th place with 11 points after starting the day just above the relegation zone, while Lazio drop to eighth place, a point behind city rivals Roma in fourth place ahead of their match against league leaders Napoli later on Sunday.

The great-grandson of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini was included in Sarri's squad for the match, although he did not participate.

Romano Floriani Mussolini, an 18-year-old defender, came up through the club's youth systems after previously playing for nearby rivals Roma.
