South Africa launched a fresh attack on Ghana as both countries await FIFA verdict on the protest filed by SAFA regarding the 2022 World Cup qualifier between Black Stars and Bafana Bafana.

The South Africa FA filed a formal complaint with FIFA following Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 defeat in Cape Coast which ended their hopes of playing at the World Cup in Qatar.

SAFA alleged that the match was manipulated by officials, led by Senegalese Ndiaye Maguette who awarded Ghana a penalty in the first half. Andre Ayew converted expertly to seal Black Stars to the play-offs.

The GFA responded by slamming SAFA for peddling lies and calculated attempts to destroy the reputation of the Black Stars. They proceeded to file a response with FIFA, urging the world football governing body to dismiss the protest and punish South Africa severely.

But Safa chief executive officer Tebogo Motlanthe has accused Ghana of shifting the focus of their protest, however, they are confident of a favourable verdict.

“They [GFA] are trying to shift the focus,” said Motlanthe as per Phakaaathi.

“What we are complaining about is the conduct of the match officials as governed by article 18 of Fifa’s Disciplinary Code. You can’t make a protest about the referee’s decisions. We believe his [the referee’s] conduct was manipulated.

“They [Fifa] would have just sent it [Safa’s complaint] back otherwise. We will hear from them tomorrow [November 23]. We are still confident.”

Safa’s protest was backed by a report compiled by former top referee Ace Ncobo, noting how Ndiaye handled the match in Cape Coast.

They want the match replayed.
