Black Satellites coach Karim Zito has explained the reason behind the decision to drop Bechem United right back Clinton Doudou.

The youngster did not make Ghana's 18-man squad for the ongoing WAFU U-20 Championship in Niger.

His omission came to the surprise of many football fans following his outstanding performance this season with Bechem United.

According to Karim Zito, the right-back failed to impress him at the national team including Legon Cities Adamu.

"Your team's performance will bring you to the national team  and when you come to the national team, i dont judge you by your club performance but by what you show me in the national team to select you.

"When they came i was even wondering what is happening with Clinton. For Adamu of late he doesn't play. All the time Adamu is on the bench. All the friendly matches we played they were on the bench so why should I bring them. They didn't perform well does why I decided to drop them", he said at the post-match conference.

Defending champions Ghana endured a disappointing start in the WAFU Zone B U20 Championship which is underway in Niger.

The Black Satellites suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in an opening Group B match at the Stade Général Seyni Kountche in Niamey on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abudullahi in each half of the game ensured the Flying Eagles picked all three points.
