Injured Ghana Jonathan Mensah ruled out of Japan clash

Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah is unavailable for the Ghana game against Japan in the Kirin Cup tournament.

The Black Stars centre-back picked up a nasty head injury during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic.

Mensah spent a day in the hospital after suffering concussion and he is yet to fully recover for action.

His absence means Ghana have been left with only one centre-back ahead of the game against Asian giants Japan.

The team has been plagued by injuries and several positive COVID-19 test.

This means coach Otto Addo will have to improvise with a defensive midfielder as left-back Gideon Mensah, who played in similar role against Madagascar, is ruled out.

Meanwhile, first choice goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot, Richard Ofori, Antoine Selorm Semenyo and Elisha Owusu didn't travel with the team to the Asian country for the two friendlies.

There are other players who also withdrew from the team due injuries, ailments or permission to return to their clubs to hold talks over a possible move away this summer transfer.
