Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom dedicated his first competitive goal in Europe to his son on Saturday after scoring in one of the biggest games in the Swiss top-flight.

Inkoom opened the scoring for his Basel and helped in another as they thrashed their arch rivals FC Zurich 4-1 in the biggest game of the Swiss calendar.

He joined Basel last year but scored his first goal for the club during Saturday’s crucial game.

The right-back had his son, Samuel Junior, just before the World Cup in South Africa in July.

With Ghana excelling during the tournament and his season in Switzerland getting off to a flying start, the ex-Kotoko defender says his son has brought him good luck.

"I must say that to win against FC Zurich away is the biggest thing for any player in the Swiss League but what makes it full of joy for me is my lovely son Sammy Junior," Inkoom told Ghanasoccernet.com.

“He has brought a lot of luck to me and I dedicate this goal to him. I know more will follow.”

Inkoom is expected to play a key role as they face Bayern Munich in the Champions League this midweek.
