Inter close in on new sponsorship deal

Inter are nearing a new sponsorship agreement with long-time backers Pirelli.

The current deal between the two parties is set to expire at the end of the season and the international tyre company looks to be in pole position to see its name splattered across the face of Nerazzurri strips for another term.

According to la Gazzetta dello Sport, the renewal is set for a total of three years and worth €30 million.

This is significantly less than the five-year, €125m deal that club president Erick Thohir had initially hoped to strike with Etihad Airways last autumn before talks eventually broke down.

Thohir has not been in Milan since November but is set to return next week, at which point he is expected to set sponsorship negotiations as his main priority.

The relationship between club and company has been unstable since Pirelli president Marco Tronchetti Provera, friend of former Inter chair Massimo Moratti, threatened to pull the plug on the deal last season if Inter failed to qualify for European competition.

Pirelli have been the Beneamata’s kit sponsor for the past two decades after originally partnering up in July 1996.
