Inter are closing in on reaching an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen according to a report in today's print edition of Tuttosport.

Vertonghen's contract with the Premier League club is due to expire at the end of the season and with thanks to Vertonghen's relationship with Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, Inter are getting close to agreeing a deal with him to join on a free transfer in the Summer.

The report from the Turin based newspaper goes on to state that Inter are looking at giving Vertonghen a two year contract with an option for a third year.

Vertonghen is Inter's top target for the defence as per the report but he is not the only defender that Inter are targeting going by other reports which have linked them with Hellas Verona's Marash Kumbulla among other players such as Lazio's Francesco Acerbi.

This season Vertonghen has made 26 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored two goals and contributed a single assist.
