Inter midfielder still believes in third place

Following Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Palermo, Inter’s Gary Medel revealed his teammates still have their eyes set on third position in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri finished 2015 on top of the league and have since slipped to fifth position, however the Chilean midfielder is yet to give up on their Champions League qualification goal.

“We still believe in third place,” he told Inter Channel. “The important thing is that we win, it’s not so important whether it’s me or a teammate who scores.”

The 28-year-old joined the Biscione from Cardiff City following a successful World Cup campaign with Chile and spoke with satisfaction of his current role in the squad.

“At Inter I’m very happy; I get on well with my teammates, the coach and with the staff.

“I’m glad that the coach has respect for me as well as the other squad members who all hold important roles.”

Medel will be a likely starter for coach Roberto Mancini in Saturday night’s encounter with Bologna where Inter will seek back-to-back Serie A wins for the first time since December 12.
