Inter Milan put in a performance worthy of Serie A champions as they put Sampdoria to the sword with a 5-1 victory to emphatically go 19 games unbeaten in the league.

A rare double for Alexis Sanchez was the highlight of a highly accomplished evening for Antonio Conte's men, with the manager not even having to bring on superstar striker Romelu Lukaku, who rested on the bench.

Atalanta's failure to beat Sassuolo last Sunday ensured leaders Inter were crowned champions for the first time in 11 years, and in their first match since clinching the Scudetto, they showed no sign of letting up.

Sampdoria's terrible night got off to the worst possible start when Roberto Gagliardini put Inter 1-0 ahead after just four minutes, slotting home a tidy cross from winger Ashley Young.

Sanchez then opened his account on 26 minutes with a right-foot strike into the corner, before Keita Balde Diao brought Sampdoria back into the game by making it 2-1.

But straight down the other end, Sanchez steered home a well-controlled volley to restore his side's two-goal advantage.

After the break, Inter continued to hunt for goals and the match became something of a procession.

Young Andrea Pinamonti, who came on for Sanchez in the second half,  scored his first for the club and Inter's fourth just after the hour mark.

before The procession then continued for Inter in the second half, with Sanchez's replacement Andrea Pinamonti scoring the home side's fourth.

Things got even worse for Sampdoria when they gave away a penalty for handball.  Lautaro Martinez emphatically converted it to put the seal on the victory.

A third successive league win moves Inter on to 85 points, 15 clear of second-placed Atalanta, with three games still to play.
