Inter to pounce for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder

Published on: 14 July 2016

After reports that he is unsettled, Serie A side Inter could be hoping to lure Zenit St Petersburg into selling their man Axel Witsel.

The Belgian international has been linked with other Italian sides such as Napoli, Roma and AC Milan, as well as foreign clubs such as the English Premier League’s Everton and Tottenham.

However, Roberto Mancini and the rest of the Nerazzurri management look to be in pole position to finally bring the 27-year-old to Italy, as they are prepared to part with €22m in exchange for his signature, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian tactician is fond of Witsel and has personally requested that the club goes after him, after the player admitted that he was unsettled in Russia and wanted a change of scenery.

The former Benfica midfielder featured in 41 matches in all competitions for the Russian Premier League champions last season, scoring six goals and bagging five assists.
