It is a step back but Cech confident Arsenal can still mount title threat

Petr Cech believes that Arsenal are still in the race for the Premier League title despite the disappointing defeat against Manchester United.

Arsenal's 3-2 defeat against United at Old Trafford on Sunday leaves them five points off leaders Leicester City at the top of the table and many now believe that the Gunners' have squandered their chance of winning the title.

Goalkeeper Cech is not prepared to concede Arsenal's title aspirations and has stated that his side still have enough time to turn things around in the coming weeks despite taking a 'step back' this weekend.

He said: "We still have a chance, so we will go for it until the last minute.

"This was a big disappointment for us and is a step back after last week, where we managed to overcome a deficit against Leicester at home. This is a step back but we need to keep working.

"I think it was a perfect game for them. They had nothing to lose and had a very good win in midweek, so everyone was ready for the game. We knew it was going to be difficult but, as I said, no matter what opposition you play against, if you make mistakes, you're going to be punished."

Arsenal host 16th-placed Swansea City in their league fixture on Wednesday night.
