Former Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour has expressed his regret for failing to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title with the Black Stars.

Kuffour had an illustrious football career, winning several laurels particularly the UEFA Champions League with German giants, Bayern Munich.

Despite club success, the former AS Roma centre-back missed out on winning the continental showpiece with the West African powerhouse.

The 48-year-old featured for the Black Stars from 1993 to 2006, making 54 appearances and scoring three goals.

Kuffour in an interview strongly criticized former England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher for belittling the AFCON while expressing his displeasure not winning the said title during his playing days.

“Carragher should be ashamed of himself. Richards and Sturridge challenged him on his comment about the AFCON but he insisted because he doesn’t respect. Carragher should respect us because we’ve got African players who made impact in the Premier League. Did he win the Premier League during his time?

"Some of us including me never got the chance to win the AFCON. It kills me everyday because there is nothing that I can show to my children. It’s a very difficult tournament to play because we know each other, the strength, the technique and the understanding of the game is always the same. You can never underrate Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Nigeria whenever they play each other” he said.
