Italian football mourns Cesare Maldini

First Italian football player allowed to lift European Champion Club's Cup (monicker used until 1992, before it became Champions League), back in 1963, when he was AC Milan captain and won final game against Benfica at Wembley Stadium, Cesare Maldini died today, at 84 years old. Captain and icon for Rossoneri, which he had been playing for 1954 to 1966, Maldini, father of late 80's, 90' and early 2000's football legend Paolo Maldini, Cesarone has also worn shirts from Triestina and Torino, before becoming a trainer and managing AC Milan (first as an assistant for Nereo Rocco, then as an head coach, from 1971 to 1974), Foggia (1974-76), Ternana (1976-77), Parma (1978-80), Italian NT as assistant (1980-86, winning World Cup 1982 in supporto of Enzo Bearzot), Italy Under-21 (1986-96), Italy as head selector (1996-98), AC Milan again as a technical director (2001) and Paraguay (2001-02).
