Ghana midfielder Ebenezer Afriyie Acquah could head back to Italy after Sassuolo expressed interest in him.

The 21-year-old Ghanaian international joined German outfit TSG Hoffenheim from Parma in January this year.

But he has struggled to break into the team as manager Marco Kurz has frozen him out of his plans in preference for senior players as they fight relegation.

Acquah’s lack of first team action has alerted the Seria B side who have enquired about his availability with his local representative and FIFA agent Oliver Arthur rumoured to be mooting a deal that will see his client move back to Italy.

The former Palermo midfielder, who is highly regarded as a carbon-copy of Michael Essien is hugely respected in Italy where he impressed heavily during his time at Palermo and Parma.
