Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has opened up about the immense pressure that comes with playing for the Black Stars, citing the country's deep passion for football as a major factor.
Semenyo, who has been in top form for Bournemouth, admitted that the high expectations from Ghanaian fans can be overwhelming.
"Pressure. It felt like pressure, to be honest. There's a lot of pressure from the fans that we've got a good team, and we've got to do well," Semenyo said in an interview with Premier League TV.
"I think we needed to beat Uruguay to get through. Obviously, we lost. It was just frustrating."
Semenyo also highlighted the intense emotions that come with playing for Ghana, noting that the country's love for football can be both a blessing and a curse.
"You look into the stands, all the fans were frustrated, angry, cussing at everyone, and that's just the country in a nutshell. They just love football. Their week is determined on how well we do," he added.
Despite the pressure, Semenyo remains committed to the Black Stars, having earned 25 caps since his debut in June 2022. Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, a test that will once again put the team under scrutiny.
