Ghana defender Abdul Baba Rahman has revealed that persistent injuries, not fan backlash, led to his absence from the Black Stars.
Following his not so impressive performances for the national team, the former Chelsea left-back faced backlash with jeers from Ghanaian fans becoming a major subject for discussion.
He withdrew from Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa cup of Nations (AFCON) and has since been missing in action on the international scene.
In an exclusive BBC Sport Africa interview, Rahman clarified:
"I took a personal decision to focus on my fitness. Injuries have been a challenge, and I needed time to recover.
"I joined PAOK last year and prioritized regaining my fitness. Fans want me back, but my health comes first," he emphasized.
Rahman last played for Ghana in September 2023 against Central African Republic.
