Ghana International Jacob Mensah has signed for English Premier League side Crystal Palace from non-league side Ramsgate Football Club after impressing Palace boss Roy Hodgson.

The 18-year old centre back who is highly rated and compared to Man United’s centre-back Chris Smalling made 60 appearances for Ramsgate.

Mensah had been on the radar of several clubs such as Brighton and Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City.

After completing his move to the London club, his manager Nick Davis has congratulated the player on his move.

CEO and club director Paul Bowden-Brown announced that Jacob Mensah will get to play in front of the Crystal Palace fans for the first time during pre-seasson against the U-23 side.

He urged the Ghanaian to take up the new challenge: “We wish Jacob the very best with his new challenge at Crystal Palace, and hope he looks forward to meeting up with his new teammates. What an advert this is for non-league football and Ramsgate Football Club with its strong youth set up.

“If any other young footballers wish to follow in Jacob’s footsteps, come and join us when the club is running its post-16-18years academy trials at Southwood on April 17.”, he added.
