James Kuuku Dadzie: Players withdrew from Black Stars Due to Slim AFCON qualification chance

Published on: 14 November 2024

Former Black Stars captain James Kuuku Dadzie believes eight players withdrew from the team because Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are low.

Ghana, with only 2 points in Group F, faces significant qualification challenges.

Ahead of their final set of fixtures against Angola and Niger, eight players withdrew from the squad citing many reasons.

"Our performance has been poor, making qualification difficult," Dadzie told Asempa FM. "I think this prompted the players' withdrawal."

However, Dadzie acknowledges football's unpredictability.

"Football is unpredictable. The replacement players might perform well and secure qualification. We're hoping Sudan loses," he added.

Ghana faces Angola on November 15 and Niger on November 18 in their final qualifying matches.

The Noack Stars will need to win both remaining games and hope Sudan falls to pick a point at least.
