Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku netted a crucial penalty to secure a 1-1 draw for İstanbul Başakşehir against Eyüpspor in a Super Lig clash at the Fatih Terim Stadium on Monday afternoon.

This marked the first-ever meeting between the two sides, adding extra intensity to the matchup.

Eyüpspor opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Mame Thiam converted Ahmed Kutucu's pass, firing a precise shot into the bottom right corner to put the visitors in front. Despite holding a dominant 64% possession, Başakşehir struggled to find an immediate response.

Their breakthrough came in the 59th minute, as Opoku stepped up to the spot and coolly converted a penalty, driving the ball down the center to level the score. Opoku's performance was influential, as he commanded the backline throughout the game and played the full 90 minutes.

Compatriot Prince Ampem also featured for Eyüpspor, adding to the Ghanaian representation in the match. Başakşehir will look to build on this result when they face Konyaspor next.
