Ghana international Jerome Opoku was given the marching orders on Sunday when Istanbul Basaksehir locked horns with Hatayaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Black Stars defender was called to action when his side cruised to a narrow win over their opponent at the BaÅŸakÅŸehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu.

Opoku accumulated yellow cards in the game and was sent off in the final minutes of the much-anticipated clash.

The defender’s first booking was in the 20th minute before the second in injury time that resulted in a red card.

Despite being reduced to ten-man, the home team managed to secure victory to merit the three maximum points at stake.

Algeria international Mehdi Abeid goal in the 11th minute made the difference for Istanbul Basaksehir.

Opoku will miss the trip to Kasimpasa next week as he continues his loan spell in the Super Lig with Basaksehir.

He joined the club in the summer transfer window from Portuguese outfit Arouca, and could make the move a permanent one at the end of the season.

The lanky defender is a candidate for Chris Hughton's team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
