Jesse Marsch: Leeds appoint new manager until 2025

Published on: 28 February 2022

Leeds have confirmed the arrival of former RB Leipzig manager Jesse Marsch as their new boss, replacing the departed Marcelo Bielsa.

90min exclusively revealed United had decided to part ways with Bielsa after the thumping at the hands of Tottenham on Saturday, that defeat the latest in a string of poor results. Marsch was Leeds' top target and the two parties quickly agreed terms, again revealed by 90min.

Marsch has been looking for a Premier League job since leaving Leipzig, where he took charge of just 21 matches before he was dismissed in December.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta said: “We are delighted to welcome Jesse to the club and excited for him to lead us into this new chapter.

“Jesse is someone we identified a number of years ago during his time at Red Bull Salzburg and we believe his philosophy and style of football aligns with that of the club and will suit the players very well.

“We have a long-term plan and firmly believe he can take Leeds United to the next level and are excited for what the future holds.”

He formerly impressed in Major League Soccer with New York Red Bulls before joining Red Bull Salzburg. In Austria, he won league and cup doubles in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

He is now tasked with keeping Leeds in the Premier League. United have been awful defensively, conceding 60 goals in the top flight already, but have missed key trio Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford due to their long-term injuries.

Leeds are currently two points above the relegation zone and haven't won a game since a thrilling 3-2 victory at West Ham in mid-January.
