John Paintsil: Kwesi Appiah was right to drop me from Black Stars

Ghana defender John Paintsil says coach Kwesi Appiah was spot-on with the decision to axe him  from the squad during June's World Cup qualifiers.

The right-back has revealed that the coach informed him of the decision before the final list for the matches against Lesotho and Zambia was made public.

he was sidelined due to his club-less status.

The ex-Fulham right-back admits he fell victim to coach Appiah's policy of inviting only players playing competitive football.

Paintsil has been without a club since leaving English side Leicester City says he appreciates the decision to leave him out of the Black Stars.

“The coach called me before the two qualifiers, and explained why I can’t be part of the team. I understood him and wished the team well," Pantsil said on Stage Africa on GTV.

“The norm is if you have no club, you should not be handed a national team call up.

"It happened to Olele (Richard Kingson) some time ago, and the coach didn’t want to make some players more special than others,” he added.

Pantsil is still searching for a club since he left Leicester.

He has been linked with clubs in China, France and Israel.
