Ecuadorian-Ghanaian forward John Yeboah made an instant impact off the bench to help Venezia earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Empoli in Serie A Round 33.
The game at the Stadio Carlo Castellani began slowly, with neither side breaking the deadlock in the first half. Empoli took the lead in the 59th minute when Jacopo Fazzini poked home a close-range effort after a cross from Liam Henderson.
Venezia responded swiftly. John Yeboah, who replaced Issa Doumbia in the 62nd minute, needed just five minutes to make his mark. The 24-year-old tapped in from close range following a corner to level the score and notch his second goal of the season.
Midfielder Gianluca Busio then gave Venezia the lead in the 85th minute with a cool finish from the center of the box. But Empoli hit back almost immediately, Tino Anjorin fired in a long-range effort to rescue a point for the hosts.
Venezia had more big chances (4 to Empoli’s 1) but couldn’t close it out. Next up, a tough test against AC Milan on April 27th.
