Jordan Ayew lucky to escape red card – Burnley coach Sean Dyche

Published on: 30 June 2020

Burnley manager Sean Dyche felt Crystal Palace ace Jordan Ayew was lucky not to have been sent off during the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Ghana attacker appeared to have elbowed Burnley’s striker Josh Brownhill in the face in the second half with the scoreline goalless.

The incident was checked by VAR who deemed Ayew's actions not worthy of violent conduct.

Burnley went on to win the match 1-0 courtesy an injury-time goal.

However, Sean Dyche speaking after the final whistle at Selhurst Park, felt Ayew could easily have seen red.

"I haven't seen it back, but from a distance, I thought there was a chance (of a red card)," said the Clarets chief.

"His arm went to an awkward shape, but I haven't seen a close up so I don't know."

The decision by officials has however been backed by Premier League pundit Ally McCoist.
