Jordan Henderson suggests there 'are more things to come' from Players Together initiative

Jordan Henderson has indicated there will be more to come from the Players Together initiative after their united efforts created something powerful.

Liverpool's captain was moved by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and, as result, became the driving force behind all 20 Premier League captains coming together in April to raise funds for NHS charities. He did not want any credit for it but his counterparts highlighted the work he did.

The England international has spoken publicly about the movement but he did so for the first time on Tuesday night, telling Kelly Cates on Five Live that it was 'amazing' to see unity in a time of crisis. They have raised millions of pounds but Henderson hopes there will be more ventures in the future.

'We wanted to do something but we wanted to make sure it was the right thing – and it was done properly,' said Henderson. 'It took a bit of time but, as you can imagine, we have all come together and done an amazing thing.

'We have raised a lot of money for the charities that need it and the support for the people who need it as well. That has been massive for them. We have all come together in this lockdown to try and help as the best we can at this awful time. It was a real collective effort.

'Everyone wanted to do something. To do it together made it even more powerful. It was all for the people who needed it the most, the NHS, the key workers and we made sure the funds were going in the right place. Hopefully there is one or two more things to come in the course of the near future.'

Should football restart, Henderson is on the brink of becoming the first Liverpool captain to lift the league title for the first time since 1990. It will be surreal, with no supporters inside any stadiums, but the 29-year-old has promised there will be huge celebrations when fans are permitted to return.

'If you were to win any trophy and to be given it with no fans there it would be strange,' said Henderson, who insisted he had no worries about safety after returning to training. 'It would of course be different but, as a player, for us we just have to concentrate on what is important.

'Hopefully if it does happen it means we are still in a very good position of winning the Premier League so we will all be very happy. Then we can look forward to the future when the fans are allowed back in the stadium and I'm sure we can have a celebration together.'
