Jorgensen: Town have to cope

Published on: 14 December 2018

Huddersfield Town defender Mathias Jorgensen says his side will simply have to cope without injured duo Aaron Mooy and Tommy Smith over the busy festive period.

Australia international Mooy, who was scheduled to leave the play for his country at the Asian Cup, has been ruled out for at least two months after suffering medial collateral ligament tear in his right knee during the 1-0 loss at Arsenal last weekend.

Meanwhile, captain Smith sustained a tear to his right hamstring in the same game and will be sidelined for around a month, leaving Jorgensen and his Terriers colleagues to fight on as they aim to move clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Jorgensen told Sky Sports News: "He (Mooy) is, of course, one of our best players and we have got to figure out a way to deal with that.

"But we have played other games without Aaron last year, and this year without some of our stronger players, and we've coped well performance-wise."

Meanwhile Terriers skipper Smith said of his own setback: "Hopefully, it will not be too long until I am back involved and fighting for my spot again.

"It is a small tear in my hamstring, which is unfortunate, but these things happen and I'll come back fitter and stronger."

Town face a crunch home clash with Newcastle United on Saturday, with both meetings of the two sides last season having ended in 1-0 victories for the hosts.

Huddersfield are 13/8 to claim victory this weekend, with a 1-1 draw priced at 5/1 and the Terriers 13/8 to keep a clean sheet.
