Journalist indicates Barca put themselves at service of political & social idea

Carlos Herrera, one of the top Spanish journalists, has indicated that he stopped supporting Barcelona when he felt the club started leaning towards a certain political and social ideology.

Although he became a fan when he was young, Herrera no longer feels the same bond with the Blaugrana.

"I was raised in Barcelona and my father supported Barcelona," he told Cadena Cope.

"I was educated at the Camp Nou in the early 1970s.

"The problem is that when a club puts themselves at the service of a political and social idea, that club ceases to interest me because they do not represent me."

Herrera went on to recall the outcome of the first game he ever attended at the Camp Nou.

"Barcelona won 4-0 and Johan Cruyff scored two goals and gave two assists," he added.

"I was completely at the top and we were hugging with people who did not know each other saying that it was not possible for such a footballer to exist.

"Cruyff's average speed, game vision and ability to organise a match were unique.

"I have not seen that in any other player."
