Jovic scores again as RB Leipzig fall at Mainz

Luka Jovic was on target yet again for Eintracht Frankfurt bagging the fifth goal in a 1-5 win away at Bielefeld as RB Leipzig slipped up at Mainz.

Last weekend Luka Jovic was on target twice for Eintracht Frankfurt against Schalke after struggling at LaLiga champions Real Madrid. The Serbian striker was making his first appearance for the German side returning to Frankfurt on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Having endured a difficult start to his Madrid career – the Serbia international only scored twice in 32 appearances under Zinedine Zidane in the Spanish capital, where he arrived for 60 million euros in 2019. But a return to Frankfurt appears to be the perfect tonic for Jovic, who came off the bench and scored twice in 28 minutes as Eintracht defeated Schalke 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Today Frankfurt travelled to struggling Arminia Bielefeld and once again Jovic came off the bench in the second half to strike with the forward netting Eintracht's fifth as part of a comprehensive 1-5 Bundesliga win that sees Adi Hutter's men move to sixth place in the table.

RB Leipzig slip up

RB Leipzig's title race suffered a shock setback on Saturday after they twice wasted a lead to slump to a 3-2 loss at strugglers Mainz 05 and fail to close the gap on leaders Bayern Munich.

Second-placed Leipzig, who have now won just one of their last four league games, are on 35 points, four behind Bayern, who face Schalke 04 on Sunday and could further pull away. Leipzig next face Bayer Leverkusen.

"The title is not in our minds at all," Leipzig defender Willi Orban said. "What we have to do is make sure we stay in touch with the top spots. That's hard enough.

Mainz' second win of the season was not enough to lift them out of 17th place, but they moved to within five points of the relegation playoff spot.
