Former Porto coach Julen Lopetegui was happy being linked with Real Madrid last year.
The Spain U21 coach was being considered ahead of Rafa Benitez's appointment.
"I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it's nice to be on the radar of a big club like Real Madrid.
"You never know what's going to happen, but they have had and will always have great coaches," he told Marca.
