Juventus defender could make shock summer exit

Andrea Barzagli’s time in Turin could possibly be coming to an end as he is yet to work out a contract renewal with Juventus.

The 34-year-old defender’s current contract is set to run out in June and is thought to be considering his options after a breakdown in talks.

According to Tuttosport, the two parties are unable to find an agreement over the renewal, as Juventus are only willing to offer a one year contract extension with an option for an additional season, whilst Barzagli demands the guarantee of two years.

As a result, the former Wolfsburg defender could choose to run down his contract and end his five year run at the club come the end of the season, putting Serie A rivals AC Milan and Inter on high alert.

The Milanese giants are eager to add to their respective back lines and could tempt him away with the promise of a bumper deal.

Whilst it remains to be seen what will be made of the stand-off, the Bianconeri may be willing to appease Barzagli’s demands and change their offer, with the threat of him leaving for a direct rival.
