Juventus striker hopes to have boosted Italy credentials

Juventus striker Simone Zaza says he’s hoping to have boosted his chance of making the Italy squad for Euro 2016, after he netted the winner against Napoli on Saturday.

The former Sassuolo hitman struck two minutes from time to sink the Partenopei and extend Juventus’s stunning winning streak, and is hopeful that he’ll be on the plane to France in the summer with the national team.

“The goal is to be one of the main players at the European Championship,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I hope to convince Antonio Conte to call up me,” he continued.

Zaza’s goal on the weekend saw Juventus leapfrog Napoli into first place in the Serie A table, and the forward is optimistic that the feat represents a turning point in what has been a very close season in Italy’s top flight.

“I hope that this proves to be an important goal, the goal that helps us win the Scudetto.”
