Juventus will host Bayern Munich at the Juventus Stadium in the first leg of their last 16 tie in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

La Vecchia Signora qualified for the Round of 16 after collecting 11 points, one behind Manchester City in Group D, and they sealed their qualification with a 1-0 victory against the Citizens.

The Bavarians  qualified for the knock-out rounds after topping Group F with 15 points in six matches and the only time they dropped points was in a shock 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in London.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side dropped points in their latest Serie A fixture. After drawing 0-0 against Bologna on Friday night, their winning streak of 15 Serie A matches came to an end.

Pep Guardiola’s team go into this game on the back of a 3-1 win against Darmstadt on Saturday in the Bundesliga. They are now on 59 points after 22 league games and eight points ahead of Borussia Dortmund.

Former Bianconeri players Arturo Vidal and Kingsley Coman are expected to play for Bayern in Tuesday’s match. Vidal has scored three goals and got seven assists in 32 matches in all competitions while Coman has scored four goals and assisted in seven others in 22 games.

November 2005 was the last time Juventus beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League. David Trezeguet scored both goals for the Bianconeri in a 2-1 win at the now demolished Stadio delle Alpi. Their most recent meeting was the quarter-final tie in 2012 when Bayern knocked out Antonio Conte’s side 4-0 on aggregate.

Juve will be missing Alex Sandro, Giorgio Chiellini and Kwadwo Asamoah with short-term injuries while Martin Caceres is out for the season with an injured Achilles tendon.

Bayern will also miss defenders Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber with long-term injuries while Javi Martinez is out until March with a knee problem.
