Joao Cancelo will miss the remainder of the calendar year after Juventus announced the full-back underwent successful knee surgery.
The Portuguese international had suffered a torn meniscus, and during his pre-match press conference on Friday, coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed he underwent a procedure to correct the problem.
“Today, Joao Cancelo has undergone a medial selective meniscectomy on his right knee,” read a statement on the Juventus website.
“The operation, performed by Professor Roberto Rossi, a consultant for Juventus and J | Medical, in the presence of Juventus health manager Dr. Claudio Rigo at the Clinica Sedes Sapientiae was fully successful.
“From tomorrow Cancelo will start rehabilitative care.”
The injury means Cancelo will miss Saturday’s Derby della Mole with city rivals Torino, though he is expected to return to the Juventus squad in late January.
