“Lotto BC won’t cash my ticket because I don’t have photo ID,” Borik told CBC.ca.

According to the homeless man, he hasn’t had proper identification for a couple of years. Borik lost it during “a time of upheaval” in his life and hasn’t needed it until he made a scoop.

To get the photo ID, Borik needs a birth certificate from his birth town of Montreal, by he can’t get a birth certificate without photo identification.

“I would love to be inside for Christmas. That was my plan in July, when I won the money. If I’d got my ticket cashed today, I’d give a thousand dollars to the Gospel Mission to help other homeless people,” Borik said.

CBC reporter Belle Puri has helped Borik to fill in the paperwork. Within three weeks he will get the birth certificate required for the photo ID. This will help him to claim the prize.
