Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.
Manchester United defender, Axel Tuanzebe, has made a move to the Championship club, Stoke City, in search of increased game time. Tuanzebe returned to training in January following a prolonged injury lay-off and has been seeking opportunities to get back on the pitch.
The 25-year-old defender’s contract with Manchester United is set to expire in June, and it is unlikely that the option to extend it will be triggered by the club. However, Stoke City will not have the option to make the loan deal permanent at the end of the loan period.
Tuanzebe becomes the fifth signing for Stoke City during the January transfer window as they look to turn their season around after a slow start to the campaign which currently sees them sitting in 18th place in the Championship table. Under the guidance of manager Alex Neil, Tuanzebe may find regular playing time as Harry Souttar recently joined Leicester City in a £15m deal.
“It was important that we added to our defensive resources and Axel is a player who knows the Championship and is keen to test himself at this level again,” manager Alex Neil said after confirming the deal.
The young defender will hope to make his debut for Stoke City in their upcoming Championship match against Luton Town on Saturday.
