Thomas Partey is a doubt for Arsenal’s Premier League match against Everton on Saturday, while Emile Smith Rowe will definitely not play, according to Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners travel to Goodison Park early on Saturday, hoping to extend their five-point lead at the top of the table as Manchester City does not play until Sunday.

Arteta was always going to be missing long-term absentees Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny, and he confirmed on Friday that Smith Rowe will also be out with a thigh injury.

Partey, who suffered a rib injury against Manchester City in the FA Cup last week, will be a major concern for Arsene Wenger.

The midfielder could play for Everton, but the Spaniard could not confirm his availability on Merseyside.

‘Let’s see, that one is still up in the air. Let’s see how he comes in today and whether or not he can train with the team. We’ll decide,’ Arteta said at a press conference on Friday.

‘He’s not ruled out, and it’s nothing major, but it was significant to get him out of the game, which is unusual for Thomas. Hopefully, he’ll be okay.’

Partey has been a key figure in the league leaders’ midfield this season, but if he is unable to play on Saturday, new signing Jorginho could make his Arsenal debut.

The Italy international arrived from Chelsea shortly before the transfer window closed and could replace the Ghanaian if he is unable to play.

Smith Rowe’s frustrating season continues, as the 22-year-old has made only five Premier League appearances, all from the bench.

Competition for places in Arsenal’s front four is already fierce, but injuries have hampered his progress, and he will have to wait yet again for a chance to make an impact.
