Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he does not remember much of the 2021 Champions League final due to the concussion he suffered during the match.
The City star clashed with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and was forced off just before the hour mark, with his side losing the game 1-0 courtesy of a first-half goal by Kai Havertz.
The Blues defender received criticism for his part in the Belgian's injury, but during an interview with HLN, De Bruyne revealed he holds no ill will towards Rudiger.
"I have seen the images back. He just wanted to block me, not to cause an injury. For me it was not a red card. I was concussed, so the final is all a blur," he said.
This was not the only injury setback De Bruyne would suffer during the summer. After shaking off an eye socket issue to make Belgium's Euro 2020 squad, he then suffered a blow to the ankle during his side's round of 16 victory over Portugal.
De Bruyne went on to detail the extraordinary lengths he went to in order to be ready for the Red Devils' quarter-final meeting with Italy.
"If I speak for myself: I came in with an injury to my eye socket and after three matches I left with an even more serious ankle injury," he explained.
"I knew immediately that my ankle was bad after that tackle against Portugal. I played against Italy with two injections. If I had known beforehand what my ankle would have been like afterwards, I would not have played."
De Bruyne was speaking before Belgium's UEFA Nations League semi-final against France on Thursday. The winner of that game will then go on to face either Italy or Spain - who meet in the other semi - for the trophy.
