Kevin De Bruyne made Cristiano Ronaldo request after Man City thrashed Manchester United

Kevin De Bruyne had a derby day to remember as Man City thrashed Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, and after the match he was given a memento to cherish as well.

The 31-year-old put in a sensational midfield performance as City ran riot against their local rivals in a 6-3 win, a score line that did not even do justice to their utter dominance in the match.

Hat-tricks from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden showcased City at their very best, before a late brace from Anthony Martial at least took the slightest edge off United's humiliating performance.

De Bruyne spoke to the written press after the match and walked into the mixed zone holding Cristiano Ronaldo's shirt, having requested to have it after the derby win.

Ronaldo, 37, was an unused substitute during the derby defeat, with Erik ten Hag claiming he did not bring the Portuguese forward on as a mark of respect for his career.

"I wouldn't bring him in because out of respect for Cristiano, for his big career," Ten Hag said in his post-match press conference. "And the other thing was the advantage I could bring Anthony Martial, he needs the minutes but I don't want to point it out like that."

United lost 6-3 for only the sixth time in their history and the first time since the hammering at Southampton in October 1996.
