Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson intends to utilise Matt Gilks' absence to stake his claim as the first choice at Blackpool.
After joining the club in September, Kingson's chance arose after Gilks broke his kneecap on 13 November.
"Firstly, I wish Matthew a speedy recovery as we are all a family here," Kingson, 32, told BBC Sport.
"But it's perhaps the time for me to play and if I do well, maybe I'll become number one."
Since arriving in England three years ago, the goalkeeper who stood out at both this year's African Cup of Nations and World Cup has found his chances limited.
He played just once for Birmingham City between 2007-2008 and five times for Wigan Athletic from 2008-2010, albeit without making a single Latics appearance last season.
Now though, the injury Gilks suffered against West Ham means Kingson can expect regular playing time until the new year.
And he took full advantage with an impressive display in last Saturday's 2-1 home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. "It was a good game because I prepared well," added the Black Star.
"And during the second half, the fans were calling my name - which made me very happy."
Blackpool coach Ian Holloway is also delighted with the way Kingson has handled his promotion to the first team, having now made three appearances for the club lying 12th in the league.
"Watching Richard play so far, he has done a great job," explained Holloway.
"It looks as though he has had the shirt all his life - I'm delighted for him."
And the respect between coach and goalkeeper is mutual, with Kingson offering some unusual thoughts on Blackpool's charismatic coach.
"From my own personal view, he is like a preacher - I don't know if he is religious but he always speaks the truth," he explained.
"I like him so much because he speaks the truth and the truth shall set you free.
"He always lets you feel as though you are at home and for me personally, he is like a father figure."
After leaving Wigan Athletic as a free agent, Kingson joined Blackpool after turning down offers from four other countries.
