Konsa happy with Villa arrival

Aston Villa have continued their summer recruitment drive by snapping up England Under-21 defender Ezri Konsa from Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

Konsa was signed in the summer of 2018 by then Bees manager Dean Smith during his time in charge at Griffin Park and the now Villans boss has been quick to renew acquaintances with a player he clearly rates highly.

I am looking forward to the challenge of facing the top players in the world.

Ezri Konsa

Twenty-one-year-old centre-back Konsa started his career with Charlton Athletic, making 86 first-team appearances before moving to Brentford 12 months ago.

On the international stage, he was a member of the England U21s who triumphed at the 2018 Toulon Tournament and also featured at the European Under-21s Championship finals earlier this summer.

Having secured a chance to impress in the Premier League, he told his new club's official website: "I am over the moon. I can't wait to meet the lads and get started.

"To be honest, I am speechless right now - it's a dream come true. As a little kid, I always used to dream about playing in the Premier League.

"For it to come true now is a fantastic feeling for me and my family. I am looking forward to the challenge of facing the top players in the world."

Konsa is the seventh signing made by Villa this summer, with Jota, Anwar El Ghazi, Wesley, Kortney Hause, Matt Targett and Tyrone Mings having already been drafted in.

Villa can be backed at 9/4 to be relegated next season, while they are 4/11 to avoid the drop and 9/2 to finish in the top half of the table.
