Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu has jumped to the defence of under-fire defender Awal Mohammed for conceding a late penalty which denied them all three points against Berekum Arsenals.

The former Feyenoord trainee pulled down an Arsenal striker in the dying embers of the game to giveaway a late penalty which the home side converted to nick a point in the weekend's Premier League meeting at the Golden City Park.

The stalwart centre defender has been heavily criticized for the error which cost the Porcupine Warriors maximum points but the ex-All Stars boss insists fans should leave the player alone.

“He tried to save the situation but unfortunately it resulted in a penalty. It happens sometimes so those who have been accusing him should let sleepy dogs lie” Konadu told GHANAsoccernet.com

“We have to forget what happened and look ahead to our next game. One player shouldn’t be singled out for blame”

“It will be unfair to do that. Like I said, our concentration is now fixed on our next game against Mighty Jets and nothing else”

The Kumasi-based club will however get the opportunity to regain control of the Premier League when they hosts Mighty Jets in the midweek clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.
