Asante Kotoko have downplayed their interest in former Hearts of Oak forward Uriah Asante – saying he is not a priority transfer target.

The exciting 19-year-old looks set to join the Premier League champions after confirming he will not be extending his stay with the Phobians where he has been on loan for the past two seasons from second tier club Pure Joy.

Talks between Kotoko and Pure Joy over Asante are said to be at an advanced stage with a deal expected to be struck on Thursday when the clubs engaged each other in a friendly game.

No announcement has however been made 24 hours on raising several speculations over the deal but the club though confirming their working on it say is not their priority.

"Uriah Asante is not the focus of our recruitment, we are looking at other equally important players as well to strengthen our team as we storm Africa for the first time in four years," the club’s spokesperson Listowell Yesu Bukarson told GHANAsoccernet.com.

"We are looking to building a formidable and rehearsed team, a team in which no single individual is the life line but a very comprehensive team in which are players are equally important."

If successful, Asante could be a strike partner of Hearts’ leading marksman Mahatma Otoo who the Kumasi-based club confirmed on Thursday they will be making an audacious bid for.
