Asante Kotoko have sent word of congratulations to their rivals Hearts of Oak as they mark their centenary anniversary.
In a statement signed by Executive Board Chairman Dr. K.K Sarpong, Kotoko recognizes the immense contribution made by Hearts towards the development of Ghana football but urged for sober reflection to ensure that even greater things are achieved by the club in future.
"It is our conviction that an achievement of such a milestone could have only resulted from the hard work, dedication, sacrifice and commitment of many great administrators, coaches, players and the numerous supporters, both dead and living over these long and tortuous years," excepts of the statement read.
"The achievements of the club both on and off the pitch are worthy of emulation and can only serve as an example to other clubs in Ghana, across the continent and around the world.
"Hundred years in the life of any football club is worth celebrating. Other clubs who were formed even at later years have gone into extinction and are long forgotten.
"We would urge the club, on this occasion to soberly reflect on the successes and the failures of the past hundred years. A review of the key driving forces that led to the successes and the causes of the failures along the years would provide ideas for generating further success in the next hundred years of the club’s future.
"We would like to assure you of our greatest respect for your achievement and we would hope that the next hundred years would see better off-the-pitch cooperation between our two great clubs for the benefit of Ghana football."
A staggering 41 domestic league titles have been won between the clubs with Kotoko shading it by one.
The healthy rivalry between the two clubs is one of the most talked of in the world of football and will be revisited when they two sides meet in a week 7 league fixture on November 20 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
