Asante Kotoko have had fines imposed against them in the disciplinary case against Berekum Chelsea slashed significantly by the Appeals Committee.

The Kumasi-based club were standing three counts of assault after their fans were alleged to have attacked match officials, a Berekum Chelsea official and equipments of television broadcasting company Metro TV in last season’s week 11 fixture played on December 14, 2011.

Kotoko were found guilty on all counts by the Disciplinary Committee and slapped with a combined fine of Ghc 11,ooo.

The club however says it feels vindicated after getting the fine slashed significantly to Ghc 5,000 after winning the case on appeal.

“Kotoko feel vindicated in our fight against those accusations that were leveled against the club,” Kotoko’s Public and Supporter Relations Manager Listowell Yesu Bukarson told MTNFootball.com.

“Our legal team have done very well with the overwhelming evidence tendered and we are happy with the outcome of the appeal. Justice is being served.”

The charge of assault on Berekum Chelsea official Oduro Sarfo was partially won with the original punishment of Ghc 5000 reduced to Ghc 2000 while that of attacks on match officias was upheld.

However the appeal against the destruction of Metro TV equipments was entirely successful.
