The doors of the Black Stars should be kept open to Kevin-Prince Boateng, ex Ghana international Sammy Kuffour says.
The former Bayern Munich defender however insists Boateng’s continued absence should not have any adverse effect on the Ghana team as it prepares to mount a serious challenge in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Boateng, 24, last month infuriated many Ghanaians with his decision to quit the national team, citing his inability to cope with the physical exertions of both club and international football.
But Kuffour who himself rescinded his decision to retire from international football during his active days says Boateng’s decision must be respected while suggesting stronger efforts made to return the AC Milan star to the Black Stars.
“He (Boateng) has made his decision and I think everyone must respect it,†he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“But he is still a Ghanaian, he wields a Ghana passport and therefore we should welcome him whenever he wants to play for the national.
“I believe prominent people with personality should be made to talk to him, that is what happened to me when I decided to retire in 2002.
“I opened my door one day and a saw a host of prominent personalities including ministers and other dignitaries and that is what persuaded me to come back.
“So I think it will help if same is done to Boateng but again I must stress if he is not there, the Black Stars will continue to go on.â€
