Kwadwo Asamoah relinquishes Ghana number 10 jersey due to personal reasons

The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Italy-based midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has requested not to wear the number 10 jersey at the 2012 Nations Cup final.

The Udinese ace has cited personal reasons for his decision and now wants to revert to the number 20 jersey.

Asamoah was first handed the number 10 jersey at the 2008 Nations Cup finals on home soil in the absence of then captain Stephen Appiah.

It has been rumoured that the 23-year-old feels that has affected his performance at the international level.

"It's his personal decision and we have to respect that. He says he doesn’t feel comfortable wearing the number 10 jersey,'' Nyantakyi told Accra-based Happy FM.

"What will happen is that if a player request for that jersey then we will give it him.

"If two or more are interested then we will have to veto."

It is likely that talisman Andre Ayew will opt for the vacant number ''10'' jersey which was worn by his father Abedi Pele, a former Ghana captain.
