Former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah has descended heavily on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over their reluctance to pay his salary arrears, claiming that ex-team coach Avram Grant had the same issue with the FA but was treated differently.

Appiah, who was on a US$35,000 monthly salary when in charge of the Black Stars, is demanding for his unpaid wages for six months from August 2019 to December 2019 which totals US$175,000 and a winning bonus of US$10,000.

The embittered trainer instructed his lawyers to serve the GFA with a demand notice giving them seven days to make payment.

However, Henry Asante Twum, who is the Public Relations Officer of the FA, has denied claims that his outfit owes the former Al Khartoum Watani coach outstanding salaries, saying that the 59-year-old is instead owed by the Government of Ghana.

According to Appiah, the Ghana FA after parting ways with the latter paid him in full and for that matter doesn’t know why his situation is different.

“I don’t know what is wrong with Ghanaians because my situation is just like that of Avram Grant. The FA after parting ways with Grant paid his arrears just in a month time.

“They should ask themselves what I do to survive because I have been home for about eight months now without working,” he added.

The 2017-2019 spell was Appiah’s second stint in charge of the Black Stars following a first reign between 2012 and 2014.

The nation's football governing body decided against renewing his recent contract, which expired in December, owing to Ghana’s disappointing Round of 16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations last year.
