Ghana forward Kwesi Appiah started the new year with a bang as he netted in AFC Wimbledon 2-1 loss against Portsmouth in the English League One on New Year's Day.

Appiah, who battled with injuries last year, began the new year on a bright note after hitting the back of the twine in the defeat against League One leaders Portsmouth on Tuesday.

Jamal Lowe put the hosts ahead with just eight minutes on the clock from a close range.

Appiah restored parity for the Dons on the 75th minute mark with an opportunistic strike but they could not hold on as Pompey grabbed the winner five minutes later through Irish forward Ronan Curtis.

The Ghanaian lasted the entire duration of the game.

He has scored four goals in 16 appearances for Wally Downes' side in the League One.
