LA LIGA - Barcelona 1-2 Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo grabs late El Clasico winner

Published on: 03 April 2016

On an emotional night during which the Nou Camp paid its respects to the late Johan Cruyff, the first half lacked much real quality as the two sides sounded each other out.

on the second half, on one corner Pepe failed to mark Gerard Pique, Barca’s greatest threat at set pieces, and the Spaniard nodded the ball in at the near post to give the home side the lead after 56 minutes.

But Madrid equalised only six minutes later through Karim Benzema as he improvised brilliantly with an overhead kick from close range to silence the Nou Camp. And Los Blancos thought they had won it with ten minutes to go but Gareth Bale so his header wrongly ruled out for a foul on Jordi Alba.

It got worse for Zinedine Zidane’s side three minutes later when Sergio Ramos was dismissed for second yellow card that had been waiting to happen.

But the ten men did get their winner, with Ronaldo, who had been very quiet, ramming the ball home from eight yards after Bale had chipped the ball across goal.
