La Liga 'to include virtual fans though games to be played behind closed doors'

With matches set to be played behind closed doors, LaLiga have been working on ways to make the remainder of the season more appeasing to watch.

With the use of Mediapro's 3D technology, empty stadiums will be filled with images and sounds of virtual fans.

Most of the match feed will come from the main camera, showing the pitch as normal, rather an additional pitchside cameras, which are initially banned to limit the number of people inside the stadium.

That allows broadcasters to set up a system where a virtual crowd - taken from the FIFA 20 video game - can be seen in the stands alongside the real-life action.

This will be accompanied by crowed noise recorded from previous matches inside each individual stadium, which rises at moments of excitement.

Broadcasters will run two parallel channels - one where you can watch the match as normal with an empty stadium and one with a virtual crowd and recorded crowd noise.

LaLiga's clubs agreed to the proposal in a meeting on Wednesday and work has already begun to install the necessary technology at each ground.

Last week, Danish side Aarhus allowed fans to appear on giant screens at the side of the pitch in a Zoom call during their opening match of the restart.

Meanwhile, Apple are working on offering a totally different experience using virtual reality glasses.
